For the Love of Craft at Powerscourt, February 2025

Made in Wicklow has collaborated with Powerscourt for a month-long celebration of craft, creativity and film in February 2025.  Featuring two remarkable exhibitions, the program highlights the exceptional talent of Wicklow’s craft practitioners and the county’s unique connection to Ireland’s cinematic legacy.

Both exhibitions are open to the public, admission is free and will showcase the creativity of local craftspeople while drawing attention to the inspiring intersection of artistry and storytelling.

Head, Heart & Hands

Made in Wicklow presents a celebration of the county’s exceptional craft talent, running from Saturday, February 1st to Sunday, February 9th at the Entrance Hall of Powerscourt House, Enniskerry, Co Wicklow. This free exhibition offers a unique opportunity for the public to engage with the work of 41 talented craft practitioners represented on the Made in Wicklow platform.

The Cinematic Thread highlights the exceptional talent of 17 craft practitioners from the Made in Wicklow platform, each of whom has created an original piece inspired by a costume from iconic films and TV series. Working in collaboration with the Irish Costume Archive Project (ICAP), these artisans have drawn inspiration from productions such as The Favourite, The Tudors, The Miracle Club, Ripper Street and Little Women. Their creations—spanning jewellery, ceramics, textiles and metalwork—will be showcased side by side with the costumes that sparked their imagination, offering a captivating interplay between the worlds of film and craft.

This exhibition has been made possible through the support of the LEADER Rural Development Fund, County Wicklow Partnership, Wicklow County Council, and Screen Wicklow. By uniting local craftsmanship with the legacy of Ireland’s film heritage, the exhibition underscores the county’s cultural and artistic vibrancy.

My piece was vase, reacting to a dress worn by Kathy Bates in the film "The Miracle Club". Set in 1967, the plot follows a group of working-class women from Dublin on a pilgrimage to Lourdes in France.
